A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words…
As stated on my resume, while working at Amazon I was in charge of the IT peripheral (keyboards, mice, cables, etc.) vending machines strewn across the Amazon’s Seattle campus, and the daily 3rd party vending replenishment team. A larger amount of money was being spent on labor hours for this team, as they were commuting through the busy streets of multiple Seattle neighborhoods and over to the city of Bellevue from 6:00 am to noon, Monday through Friday. There were also complaints from corporate employees about this team being obtrusive. Seeking to reduce our labor cost and bring harmony to Amazon’s buildings, I pulled the data of every vend for the previous month into Microsoft Excel, where I isolated the vends by the hour. I proved that there were hardly any vends taking place between the hours of 11:00 pm and 5:00 am. I also talked with the vend replenishment team to ensure they’d be comfortable working nights. They were thrilled with the idea! We transitioned the team to nights and on average they were done an hour and a half earlier, day by day. This gave them more time to prepare peripherals for the vending machine which free’d up our other employees to focus on other tasks. A win-win, all around!
