Saved Ice

When I was working at Amazon’s BFI-6 warehouse for Amazon Fresh shipping groceries, we used dry ice to preserve the frozen goods we shipped. We were going through one case of dry ice per hour. The first layer of dry ice in every bin we pulled from the room temperature dry goods area would be completely evaporated. This was (30) $3 bricks of dry ice needlessly lost every hour, costing Amazon a minimum of $720 per day. Though I received push back (“it’s fine as it is”; “there’s no room in the freezer”), I insisted that we move the chests straight into the freezer once we received them. My actions saved Amazon over $21,000 per month.
